Building Lost - Brachers
Years 1920 - 1929
The original building at Brachers (presumably named after the family of the same name occupying the property, Bracher, who was a basket maker) was demolished around this time. The current bungalow on the site was built in the 1970's, and the property only extends to less than half the area it once did, some of the original bounds being clearly visible as a raised bank in the field next door. In living memory this area, now pasture with one ancient willow pollard marking the old boundary, had several willow pollards growing. Presumably these were Mr Bracher's source of raw material for basket making. Mr Brachers was the last inhabitant, and moved to the Saints Hill Cottages next door. (see 1902 map)
